The Bill McCreary Charity Golf Classic was started in 2016 to recreate the atmosphere of hockey meeting golf, and to raise money for the local community.
The focus is NHL celebrities, including Bill McCreary, who lends his name to the Tournament and personally takes the lead role in organizing the event. Bill is a Class of 2014 Hockey Hall of Fame member, honoured for refereeing 1737 regular season games, 297 playoff games, and the Olympics, including some of the most important and memorable games of all time. Bill retired from on ice officiating in 2011 after 29 years, but still works for the NHL as a supervisor of officials.
The tournament has - so far - raised more than $100,000 for local charities. Our charitable focus is on Health & Wellness, with the Collingwood Hospital, Meaford Hospital, and youth sports in the Blue Mountains and Collingwood area being our major beneficiaries. Our goal is for the tournament to be a sustainable signature event in the community.
